Although the app is very simple, it has taken me a lot of time and effort and I believe that I have already learnt a great deal in such a short amount of time. I am secretely enjoying programming.

My next steps that I hope to achieve in the following couple of weeks is to create the illustrations for my app, hopefully the app will then begin to look more and more like an actual app, and it will look more visually appealing.

Yay! Page’s swipe :D

I have been able to create swipe gestures on every page, so now the user can go to a new scene/page after every swipe. If they swipe left the page goes to the next scene and if they swipe right the user will go back. I additionally have learnt how to press on a button to move from scenes, I will use this feature on every last scene of each book to direct the user back to the main menu, or give them a further option to read the book again. This will be a great feature especially if they want to achieve a different story outcome through making different decisions throughout the story, and in turn giving the user a different experience. The button to direct them to the main menu will also be essential so that the user has the option of reading a different book.

Splash screen fades in automatically

I have changed the splash screen so that now the user no longer needs to click to bring them to the scene in which they pick a book. The splash screen now fades in automatically into this scene after 3 seconds. I have also put simple basic images on the scenes after you click on each book, each individual book has its own image/page. My next steps is to create a way in which I can move between these scenes (pages), ideally change to each page with a swiple, similarly to a book. If I cannot figure this out I believe pressing a button should also work well.

A lot of time spent but not a lot of outcome.

I have found it difficult at these early stages of app development, and although I have spent many hours a day trying to figure out and understand different aspects to Swift programming not much of an outcome can be seen. Having said this when I do achieve something it is highly rewarding!

I am now able to open each and every individual book which displays a new scene. It works really well and I am very happy with it 🙂

Started the app!

I have made a very basic start to my app. I designed a few quick images to help me visualise the application. So far the app opens up straight into a main screen (start page), once clicked directs you to a scene where you can select which book you would like to read.

My next steps are to create touch actions on the books so that the user can be redirected to the story itself. I will also implement a ‘click me to start’ button/image on the start page so that the user knows to click anywhere on the screen to take them to the book selection section.

I have also been spending time with the Swift book I recently purchased. I have created a working game called ‘Zombie Conga’. It has definitely helped me so far; I have even learnt a couple of things that have been used for my app.
